Thamarai Learning and Community Centre supports the integral development of Edayanchavady, a village in rural Tamil Nadu, India. The village is a direct neighbor of Auroville, an international township dedicated to the realisation of human unity. Thamarai is a living experiment that fosters a harmonious relationship and healthy co- development between both places. Thamarai – the Tamil word for lotus flower – symbolises the flowering of the full potential of all participants.

The project was established in November 2006, and is now a lively community centre in a lovingly restored 135-year-old traditional Tamil house. The centre offers a broad range of educational and cultural programs and other community initiatives.

Women and children are especially targeted in this dynamic cross-cultural environment. The centre is run by a team of volunteers from the village and Auroville as a co-creative, cross-cultural learning adventure.
